Playa de las Américas, Tenerife

Playa de las Américas is a purpose-built holiday resort between the Municipio of Arona, and Adeje in the south of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands.

Built in the 1960s beside the town of Los Cristianos and stretching northward to the Costa Adeje The closest airport is Tenerife South Airport, which is roughly 20-30 minutes away by car and roughtly 15 kilometres in distance.

Las Americas is split into a lot of different areas all offering the tourist different experiences, levels of accommodation and attractions.

The most famous part of Las Americas is its strip of bars and clubs called Veronicas and the Starco Commercial Centre. These two centers contain most of the bars that cater for the 18 to 30 age group. Within this are you will find many bars catering for most music tastes although most bars with any form of entertainment are very likely to be expensive for drinks. Well known bars in this area are Leonardo's, Yates, Brannigans, Bikini-G's and the Mett Bar. None of these bars are affiliated with their UK namesakes. Generally these will be open until 3am with the 2 main clubs, Tramps and Rags, staying upen until 6am.

The recent and ongoing refurbishment of the entire area has brightened the appearance of this commercial area and the Canarian government have imposed strict health and safety rules to get all businesses in the area up to scratch.

There are some very classy areas in Las Americas two of which being San Eugino and Adeje. These are still in Las Americas and are home to some of the best 5* hotels in the area. Many up-market restaurants and bars can be found in both of these particular areas.

Las Americas has a number of beaches, most of which are man made from imported sand from Africa. Being a volcanic island, most of the natural braches are black sand which gets really hot under the summer sun.
